Who else is sitting here wondering, where the year has gone?!
Time for self-reflection is so needed at this time of year in order to set the right intentions for the New Year. It can be difficult to know the right questions to ask yourself so I figure this post could help. They were originally found on Chriselle Lim’s blog, and I challenge you to do the same, it will give you a clearer understanding of who you are and where you want to go for the new year.
I hope you guys enjoy reading this and know that I’m being brutally honest with some of these questions. These are personal thoughts and reflections that I’m sharing so I hope you guys can respect them.
1. What were my best achievements this year?
Let me start by saying, this has been a year full of rollercoasters. I’ve not mentioned this on my blog channels as of yet, but at the very start of this year, my father-in-law passed away. This has affected my life in a major way and has without a doubt- affected my outlook on life.
I’m really proud of the relationship between Richard and I and believe we are now stronger than ever. We managed to achieve a lot this year despite all the tough times we had to face. We relocated to a new town and purchased our home, we also have both become self-employed, which is something I am very proud of for the both of us.
This year, my achievements were not major milestones but, they are very important to me. Balancing and strengthening a healthy relationship and also going after what we want by becoming self-employed.
2. How did those achievements make me feel?
So proud, of both of us, we have worked hard this year and it’s paying off.
3. What were my 3 biggest challenges or obstacles I faced this year? How did I overcome them? Who did I become as a result?
- Dealing with loss and maintaining a healthy marriage
As I already mentioned, this year has been tough- but when I look at our relationship, all I see is the strength we have built. I am so proud of us. We are still friends and know how to have fun with each other so our relationship doesn’t ever feel boring or forced. We both make the time for each other and know that a healthy relationship is one that must always be worked at.
- Staying creative
This one has been really tough for me! Being creative is the core of me and it keeps me inspired to do what I do. But building up two businesses, and relocating- it’s proven to be a challenge. For me, my blog and social channels were always solely stemmed from my love of art direction and creating beautiful imagery or well-written posts. However, I feel this year- it’s one of those things that was put on the backburner. This is something I am currently working on and now that I have had a few days break- I can already feel my creative juices are flowing and I feel ready to create some more amazing content.
- Adjusting to a new town
Shifting has been a challenge but one I am so glad we have done. I LOVE our house and I am really excited that we have started personalizing it.. My project for this year is to create a studio space where I can shoot some content at home.
4. How have I developed or changed as a person?
I like to think I have matured. I used to be so hung up on what other people were doing or how someone else was doing so much better than I, and then I realized that all of our stories are written so differently- we are the ones who dictate our future and time wasted worrying, is time that you will never get back. I read somewhere that time is like money, you can waste it or you can invest it. As cheesy as this sounds, I have chosen to invest it.
5. What have I done differently this year? What new people have I met or new experiences have I had?
This year I have been pickier with who I work with. I only want to work with those that truly inspire me and that I can back 100% Due to a lack of time, I also want to make sure that everything I do, I am really proud of. This year I got to know some other bloggers that I truly value and love having around, Elle Hernandez has been so much fun for me this year, we always have fun together and she is such a good laugh! Larissa Carlson has motivated me with her content and supermum abilities and Angela Pan works so hard and goes after what she wants.
6. How much fun have I had this year? Was I fulfilled?
At this time right now, I am having the time of my life! I live in the most beautiful country, I am surrounded by new friends, old friends, and family and I am really enjoying where I’m at right now. My mum turned 50 this year so we had all the fam in Raro for a week, which could not have been better and I just LOVE what I do. I feel that even though this year had a rocky start, it’s ended well and I am truly happy.
7. Who has helped me, been influential or impacted my life this year?
There are always so many but I have to say, Richard will always be there with me at every step of the way. Every struggle, every high and all the bits in between. He’s 50% why this blog still exists and how I keep myself motivated. My parents would be a close second because they too will always back me and always support me.
8. What am I really proud of?
Being able to produce quality content, the drive I have to work and to push myself and have a balanced social life too. I’m also really proud of my sister, she has been such a rock this year and I am forever in awe of her.
9. Is everything I have done this year in alignment with my big dream or goal?
Yes! I feel like I’m slowly aligning everything together. It takes time and work but I feel like things are starting to pay off and I have a clearer idea of what I want my 2018 to look like.
Thank you guys so much for a BEAUTIFUL year and for all of your support throughout! I promise you next year will be bigger and better!! Hope everyone has a fun and safe NYE and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
